Poem with Kwan-Yin
(The other day we were talking about Kwan-Yin, Goddess of Compassion, and it reminded me of this poem I wrote after meeting two women hiking as I was coming down from Mt Whitney on a hike I did as a fundraiser. I thought you might like it)
Coming down from Guyot Pass toward Rock Creek
I met Kwan-Yin
And her daughter
Who were hiking up to Guyot Creek.
They said they had five litres of water
And were not afraid.
I told them about Duchenne
And the treks we were on to end it
And that my grandson has it
But I am hiking for my daughter.
Kwan-Yin smiled and said
Blessings on your journey
And especially your daughter.
For the next two switchbacks
I could hardly walk for weeping.
If you can hear this without tears
Guyot Creek will never fall
Into Rock Creek
And there will be no end of weeping.
